Is The Days Of A WoW Gold Farming Ending?
WoW Gold farming could soon come to an end if Antonio Hernandez is successful in his attempt to ban IGE US from selling gold. Now he’s not starting a petition to Blizzard or picketing the offices of IGE oh no he has gone all the way and according to Sun-Sentinal and is taking them to court. As the first case of its kind were a player is seeking to ban “real money trading” within a virtual world no one really knows where this case will go, but it would certainly set a precedent.
Within new legal area of ‘virtual law’ this case is being closely watched and C. Richard Newsome, Hernandez’s attorney, said “The real significance of this case is, ‘What are the rights of the [virtual world] community members when they go online?”
Many hardcore World of Warcraft players accuse the people who buy virtual gold for real money as cheats and compare them to sports players who take banned steroids. These hardcore players are also watching this case with a great deal of interest.
IGU US attorneys have argued that no WoW player has standing to sue because they have no ownership or property rights within World of Warcraft. Then Mr Miller, IGE U.S.’s legal representation, announced that IGU is no longer involved in the virtual gold business. It only takes a few seconds to find them on the internet and if I’m not mistaken that’s definitely a WoW logo on their home page along with ‘buy wow gold’ in there tag lines.
No one is sure what will happen with this case but it can be assured it will drag on for a while. In the mean time many people will still buy gold from WoW gold farmers, but for the rest of us honest people we can always just grind or quest or daily or gold in.
