Introduction

There are three ways in which you can level a priest shadow, holy/shadow (dps) or a holy/Disc (healer). The fastest way to level your priest to 70 however is a lot more clear. As a shadow priest you will have a massive dps output and will eat your opponents easily. This build is good for both grind leveling and quest leveling but if you want to do some dungeons or pvp you may need to look at the other builds or collect different gear. It is possable to heal groups as a shadow priest but I wouldn’t recommend it, instead get to 70 as fast as want then respec to healer if that’s what you want in the end game.

Fighting Strategies

Your three most important talents as a Shadowpriest are Spirit Tap, Shadowform and Vampiric Embrace. Spirit Tap is what makes grinding as a Priest so fast, by reducing your down time to drink. I learn Vampiric Embrace as soon as I can and start putting it into my spell rotation. Alone this spell is not really that powerful but at level 40 when you pick up Shadowform you will have some serious fun now.

Your usual attack pattern before Shadowform would look something like this, put on Power Word: Shield then cast Mind Blast and start to walk backwards casting Shadow Word:Pain then Mindflay as many times a it takes for the mob to get to you then wand them to death. After Shadowform the spell rotation is very similar except I put up Vampiric Embrace after the Shadow Word: Pain.

Your wand is probably your single-most important piece of equipment. You should always wand your enemy to death so that you’ll end the fight having already regenerated some mana. As it is so important you should keep upgrading it as often as possible. You will find some good ones from quests or just check the Auction House.

When looking for gear your most important stat by far is Spirit, your Spirit Tap will get more benefit with this. The faster you can regenerate your health and mana, the less downtime you have between fights and the faster you will level. Next important would be Intellect to boost your mana pool. If a Priest has mana they can get out of most trouble with a shield or Psychic Scream prevent more damage, they can heal themselves to recover life and most obvious, they can deal more damage without running out of mana.
